This is a freeware from Alexander Peter Kowalski for Windows95 users that
allows you to tune how Win95 boots up and from where it boots up as well. It is
the TweakUI of DOS 7.0 in Windows95, hence the name of the app. It allows you to
Tweak ALL the msdos.sys file settings to have greater control on Win95 at bootup
at the DOS level.
You now have Graphical control of things like Multiboot menu access to Safemode and Previous version of MSDOS, Booting straight to DOS for games to not have Win95's overhead,
Faster boots with Stopping boot delay time, Changing Windows95 Boot drive and directory
allowing you to use different versions / setups you have online of Windows95, Setting
up as a networked system for Novell, and much much more in an easy to use interface.
Hopefully, the powerusers among you will not need the example file below,
but it is a fully customized msdos.sys file you can replace yours with if needed
for all the functions to work. Some settings may not exist in your file, so replace
your msdos.sys file with this one.
It is set to all the msdos.sys defaults and you can alter it with the program later as you wish on the fly for your next reboot.
It also has methods for helping control Windows Dynamic Cache to gain back
RAM for Windows operation since it rarely decommits or gives up ram as it was intended
to do, caching too much and holding it too long. This allows you to control it as it
was done in earlier Windows 3.11 and 95 versions.
Plus, it has config.sys tuning parameters that are great for getting back alot
of DOS / Conventional memory so you run cleaner. Dos memory is still important to
Win95 operation!
The Menu allows you to open both config.sys and system.ini to peruse or hand
tune the changes.
I personally place it in my C:\WINDOWS folder to avoid risk of not seeing it pointing,
to a non valid Windows directory so I have that in the directory/folder list off the bat since the treelists use its current dir... but you can run it from anywhere on your system but have to be sure it points to a Windows directory upon exiting it.
If you are a multiple installation Windows user, I recommend you place it in your most often used version's folder.
Cut and paste from below this paragraph and replace the interior of your Msdos.sys
hidden in your C:\ root directory after using the attrib -r -h -s -a command to
make it unhidden and writeable with a text editor on on the first time you run the
program. You may edit it manually from within the program with the button that says
to view your changes.
